Tennessee’s OSHA Training Regulations Every Worker Must Know

New Year Sale 2023

Additionally, the State Plan incorporates OSHA Standards but also has its own General Industry Standards separate from OSHA:

  • Smoking in the Workplace
  • Firefighter Protection
  • Electrical Hazards
  • Sharps Injury Prevention
  • Hazard Communication
  • Toxic Chemicals and Handling

Moreover, under the Department of Labor and Workforce Development, the Tennessee Occupational Safety and Health Administration (TOSHA) regulates and imposes all provided Standards for facilities under their administration.

Workers in Tennessee who remain under the Jurisdiction of Federal OSHA are as follows:

  • Federal employment
  • The U.S. Postal Service plus private contractor-operated facilities engaged by USPS
  • Maritime employment EXCEPT for marine construction, which TOSHA covers
  • Railroad employment (not otherwise regulated by another federal agency)
  • Employment on military bases and at Tennessee Valley Authority facilities
  • Working conditions of cabin crew on board an aircraft that is in operation
  • Any hazard, industry, area, operation, or facility where the State Plan is unable to exercise jurisdiction effectively

Since OSHA’s specific safety standards are applied to different job operations for Tennesseans and most employers prefer workers who have completed their Outreach training, OSHA recommends entry-level workers to take OSHA 10 Hour courses and workers with supervisory roles to take OSHA 30 Hour courses to obtain their DOL cards.
