Indiana’s OSHA Training Requirements Every Worker Must Know

New Year Sale 2023

Supervised by the Indiana Occupational Safety and Health Admin (IOSHA), under the Indiana Department of Labor, the State Plan of Indiana executes almost all Regulations and Standards except for a rare excavation standard.

Furthermore, the Construction Safety Division regulates investigations for the Construction Industry, while other workplaces come under the Industrial Compliance Division.

Instead of IOSHA, the following employees are covered by Federal OSHA Jurisdiction:

  • Federal employees
  • Employees of the U.S. Postal Service and private contract facilities involved in USPS operations
  • Private-sector maritime employees (i.e., in shipyards and marine terminals)
  • Specific agricultural employees and operations
  • Working conditions of aircraft cabin crew members onboard aircraft in operation
  • Any hazard, industry, area, procedure, or facility where the State Plan is unable to execute Jurisdiction productively

Since most of the Standards in IOSHA were directly acquired from the Federal OSHA, the workers in Indiana comply with the same training obligations.

Since the only aspect of training where Jurisdiction matters is excavation, individuals interested in excavation training must ensure they're learning the rules for the correct Jurisdiction.

Though OSHA doesn't require OSHA Outreach training since some jobs require training on particular Safety Standards, OSHA recommends entry-level employees enroll in OSHA 10 Hour courses and OSHA 30 Hour courses for supervisory roles.
