This program, which was created in collaboration with the U.S. Department of Transportation's Transportation Safety Institute (TSI), teaches participants how to recognize drug and alcohol use in CMV drivers. It is legal for a citizen who has been properly trained in reasonable suspicion to compel a motorist to take a drug or alcohol test under specific circumstances.
This course includes information on reasonable suspicion testing, from ordering a test to selecting the right kind of specimen. Students will learn about physical, behavioral, linguistic, and performance markers that may prompt a reasonable suspicion test, given drug or alcohol usage.

According to 49 CFR 382.603, "all persons designated to supervise drivers" should receive this training. In practice, this training is for all driver supervisors plus anyone else the motor carrier wants trained.
